A Look Back at 2024 with Ghost Machine
The year 2024 was epic for a particular comic book creative collective. January saw the release of the group’s eponymous project, a 64-page premier publication. And April 3, 2024, was a special day? It was and forever will be known as Ghost Machine Day, with the stories of Geiger #1, Redcoat #1, and Rook: Exodus #1 delivered to comic book stores and into the hands of fans. Crisis on Earth Prime noted in their post, “The Inevitable Look Back At 2024”: “A big part of that is down to…hosting… Johns and a lot of his regular collaborators.” The reviewer’s observations: the collaborative delivered on the promises and premises, and the series “lived up to the hype.” Picture, which is the perfect metaphor for comics, four interconnected universes that star strong protagonists, heroes, anti-heroes, and rogues you can’t help but be fascinated by:
The Unnamed: Depicts the stories of Geiger, Junkyard Joe, Redcoat, and First Ghost.
Rook: Exodus: A speculative fiction tale based in the future that may be your fate.
Family Odysseys: Think your family’s complicated? Meet the epoch-challenged The Rocketfellers; whose family motto might be: have time, will travel.
Hyde Street: An incredible horror scenario and story co-crafted by legendary author Johns.
In the time of great frights
As any great impresario and GM know, it’s all about timing. And with Halloween, Dia de Los Muertos, All Souls’ Day, All Saints’ Day, and All Hallow’s Eve, the Autumn reveal was all about the vibe: Horror. The G-Machine was delivered in Hyde Street, bringing it to a frightening yet fascinating genre in a series showcasing the talents of Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, and others!
Winter comes–the Families Odysseys series.
In the winter of our contentment with comics, the creatives at G-Machine brought out Family Odysseys stories for followers to enjoy just in the St. Nick of time for the Festivus season. Family Odysseys was invited in November 2024, offering family-centric holiday adventures. Affiliated with the incredible brand Image Comics, The Ghost M introduces readers to Hyde Street #1 by Johns, Reis, Miki, Anderson, and Leigh.
Hyde Street introduces us to Mr. X-Ray, Pranky, a “Boy Scout” not to be messed with, and other neighborhood denizens. It was brought to you by Johns, storyteller, and Ivan Reis, visual art. Meanwhile, Rob Leigh crafted the alphabet work, and Brad Anderson is responsible for the hints of Hyde Street’s tints, shades, and hues.
The Rocketfellers #1 tells the story of a family from the future visiting the present–we could tell you why, but then we’d have to–this brings us to Peter Snejberg and Peter J. Tomasi, the artistic team behind Hornsby & Halo #1, the ultimate experiment in environment or heredity. Or beware of barter, trade, and families. Yes, it gets fantastically, graphically complicated. So, here’s to 2024 and a taste of the offerings offered by this talented collective of comic book tale talent and powerhouse visionaries of the graphic and narrative story arts.
